Efficacy and pharmacoeconomic advantages of Fufang Huangbai Fluid hydropathic compress in diabetic foot infections: a comparative clinical study with antimicrobial calcium alginate wound dressing.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the intervention effects and pharmacoeconomic advantages of Fufang Huangbai Fluid (FFHB) hydropathic compress versus Antimicrobial Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing (ACAWD) in the treatment of diabetic foot infections (DFI). Methods: Patients with DF who were hospitalized in the peripheral vascular Department of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from December 2020 to February 2022 and met the inclusion and excluding criteria were allocated into the experimental group and control group through minimization randomization. The experimental group was treated with FFHB hydropathic compress for 2 weeks, while the control group was treated with ACAWD for the same duration. The wound healing of both groups was monitored for 1 month post-discharge. Clinical data from all eligible patients were collected, and differences in various indices between cohorts were analyzed. Results: 22 in the experimental group (including two fell off) and 20 in the control group. After the treatment, the negative rate of wound culture in the experimental group was 30% and that in the control group was 10%, There was no significant difference in the negative rate of wound culture and change trend of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of drug sensitivity (p > 0.05). The infection control rate of the experimental group was 60%, and that of the control group was 25%. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2 = 5.013, p = 0.025). The median wound healing rate of the experimental group was 34.4% and that of the control group was 33.3%. There was no significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). During the follow-up 1 month later, the wound healing rate in the experimental group was higher, and the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.047). Pharmacoeconomic evaluations indicated that the experimental group had greater cost-effectiveness compared to the control group. Conclusion: In the preliminary study, FFHB demonstrated comparable pathogenic and clinical efficacy to ACAWD in the treatment of mild DF infection, and exhibited superior pharmacoeconomic advantages. With the aid of infection control, the wound healing rate in the FFHB group showed notable improvement. Nevertheless, due to the limited sample size, larger-scale studies are warranted to further validate these findings. Abstract
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the malignant tumors with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Ferroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death caused by abnormal accumulation of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to lipid peroxidation. It involves the balance between iron metabolism, lipid metabolism, oxygen free radical reaction and lipid peroxidation. Recent studies have found that ferroptosis is closely related to the occurrence and development of NSCLC. Due to the emergence of chemotherapy resistance and radiotherapy resistance in the treatment of NSCLC, there is an urgent need to develop new effective drugs and treatment strategies. Traditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of NSCLC due to its multi-targets and minimal side effects. In this review, we summarize the mechanism of ferroptosis in NSCLC, and discuss the research status of active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine, single-herb traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal compounds in the intervention of NSCLC through ferroptosis, in order to provide a new theoretical basis for the research of ferroptosis pathway and the prevention and treatment of NSCLC by targeted ferroptosis of traditional Chinese medicine.

Effect of flow fluctuation on water pollution in drinking water distribution systems.

Abstract
The detachment of biofilm caused by changes in hydraulic conditions is an essential reason for the pollution of water in the drinking water distribution system (DWDS). In this research, the effect of flow fluctuation on bulk water quality was studied. The turbidity, iron concentration, manganese concentration, the total number of bacteria, biodegradable dissolved organic carbon (BDOC), bacterial community structure, and pathogenic genes in bacteria of bulk water were analyzed. The results indicate that the detachment of biofilm caused by fluctuant flow and reverse flow (especially instant reverse flow) can lead to the pollution of water. Throughout the entire experimental period, the turbidity under fluctuant flow velocity is 4.92%∼49.44% higher than that under other flow velocities. BDOC concentration is 5.68%∼53.99% higher than that under low and high flow velocities. The flow fluctuation increases bacterial regrowth potential (BRP) and reduces the biological stability of the bulk water. Low flow velocity is more conducive to the expression of pathogenic functional genes. In the short term, the water quality under low flow velocity is the best. Nevertheless, in a long-term operation (about seven days later), the water quality under high flow velocity is better than that under other flow velocities. This research brings new knowledge about the fluctuant hydraulic conditions on the bulk water quality within the DWDS and provides data support for stable drinking water distribution.

Abstract
The accumulating evidence revealed that gut microbiota plays an important role in pathological process of disease including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart failure, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Polysaccharides extracted from Chinese medicine (CM) can not only alleviate pathological status but also promote health by anti-inflammatory, regulating immunity, lowering blood glucose and lipids, anti-cancer, and anti-oxidation. The alterations of gut microbiota composition and metabolism pathways are the potential mechanisms of CM polysaccharides treatment. In addition, they exert functions through gut-organ axis or play an indirect role by synergistic actions with other drugs or components mediated by gut microbiota. This review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of CM polysaccharides interacted with intestinal microbial inhabitants as potential prebiotics for promoting health.

Quality appraisal and descriptive analysis of clinical practice guidelines for self-managed non-pharmacological interventions of cardiovascular diseases: a systematic review.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death around the world. Most CVDs-related death can be prevented by the optimal management of risk factors such as unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for CVDs, provide some evidence-based recommendations which help healthcare professionals to achieve the best care for patients with CVDs. This systematic review aims to appraise the methodological quality of CPGs systematically and summarize the recommendations of self-managed non-pharmacological interventions for the prevention and management of CVDs provided by the selected guidelines. METHODS A comprehensive electronic literature search was conducted via six databases (PubMed, Medline, The Cochrane Library, Embase, CINAHL, and Web of Science), seven professional heart association websites, and nine guideline repositories. The Appraisal of Guidelines, Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument was adopted to critically appraise the methodological quality of the selected guidelines. Content analysis was used to summarise recommended self-managed non-pharmacological interventions for CVDs. RESULTS Twenty-three CPGs regarding different CVDs were included, in which four guidelines of CVDs, three for coronary heart diseases, seven for heart failure, two for atrial fibrillation, three for stroke, three for peripheral arterial disease, and one for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Twenty CPGs were appraised as high quality, and three CPGs as moderate quality. All twenty-three CPGs were recommended for use with or without modification. The domain of "Editorial Independence" had the highest standardized percentage (93.47%), whereas the domain of "Applicability" had the lowest mean domain score of 75.41%. The content analysis findings summarised some common self-managed non-pharmacological interventions, which include healthy diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, alcohol control, and weight management. Healthy diet and physical acidity are the most common and agreed on self-managed interventions for patients with CVDs. There are some inconsistencies identified in the details of recommended interventions, the intervention itself, the grade of recommendation, and the supported level of evidence. CONCLUSION The majority of the summarized non-pharmacological interventions were strongly recommended with moderate to high-quality levels of evidence. Healthcare professionals and researchers can adopt the results of this review to design self-managed non-pharmacological interventions for patients with CVDs.

Abstract
More food is needed to meet the demand of the global population, which is growing continuously. Chemical fertilizers have been used for a long time to increase crop yields, and may have negative effect on human health and the agricultural environment. In order to make ongoing agricultural development more sustainable, the use of chemical fertilizers will likely have to be reduced. Microbial fertilizer is a kind of nutrient-rich and environmentally friendly biological fertilizer made from plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPR). Microbial fertilizers can regulate soil nutrient dynamics and promote soil nutrient cycling by improving soil microbial community changes. This process helps restore the soil ecosystem, which in turn promotes nutrient uptake, regulates crop growth, and enhances crop resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. This paper reviews the classification of microbial fertilizers and their function in regulating crop growth, nitrogen fixation, phosphorus, potassium solubilization, and the production of phytohormones. We also summarize the role of PGPR in helping crops against biotic and abiotic stresses. Finally, we discuss the function and the mechanism of applying microbial fertilizers in soil remediation. This review helps us understand the research progress of microbial fertilizer and provides new perspectives regarding the future development of microbial agent in sustainable agriculture.

Tea consumption and risk of bone health: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Current research evaluating the association between tea consumption and bone health still has inconsistent findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS The electronic databases of Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were systematically searched from inception until December 2022 to identify eligible studies. The calculation of summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) was carried out using random-effects models. I2 statistics and Forest plots were used to assess the heterogeneity of RR values across studies. RESULTS The pooled relative risks for bone health-related outcomes of interest among tea drinkers, compared to non-drinkers, were 0.910 (95% confidence interval 0.845 to 0.980) for fractures, based on 20 studies, 0.332 (0.207-0.457) for BMD (13 studies), 0.800 (0.674-0.950) for osteoporosis (10 studies), and 1.006 (0.876-1.156) for osteopenia (5 studies). Subgroup analysis of locations showed that the pooled relative risks were 0.903 (0.844-0.966) for the hip, 0.735 (0.586-0.922) for the femur, 0.776 (0.610-0.988) for the lumbar, 0.980 (0.942-1.021) for the forearm and wrist, 0.804 (0.567-1.139) for the phalanges, and 0.612 (0.468-0.800) for Ward's triangle. One-stage dose-response analysis revealed that individuals who consumed less than 4.5 cups of tea per day had a lower risk of bone health-related outcomes than those who did not consume tea, with statistically significant results. CONCLUSION There is an association between tea consumption and a reduced risk of fractures, osteoporosis, hip, femur, and lumbar, as well as increased BMD.

Abstract
Circadian rhythms are involved in the regulation of many aspects of the body, including cell function, physical activity and disease. Circadian disturbance often predates the typical symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases and is not only a non-motor symptom, but also one of the causes of their occurrence and progression. Glial cells possess circadian clocks that regulate their function to maintain brain development and homeostasis. Emerging evidence suggests that the microglial circadian clock is involved in the regulation of many physiological processes, such as cytokine release, phagocytosis, and nutritional and metabolic support, and that disruption of the microglia clock may affect multiple aspects of Parkinson's disease, especially neuroinflammation and α-synuclein processes. Herein, we review recent advances in the circadian control of microglia function in health and disease, and discuss novel pharmacological interventions for microglial clocks in neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential vitamin that cannot be synthesized by the human body and must be acquired through our diet. At present, the precursor of vitamin C, 2-keto-l-gulonic acid (2-KGA), is typically produced via a two-step fermentation process utilizing three bacterial strains. The second step of this traditional two-step fermentation method involves mixed-culture fermentation employing 2-KGA-producing bacteria (Ketogulonicigenium vulgare) along with associated bacteria. Because K. vulgare has defects in various metabolic pathways, associated bacteria are needed to provide key substances to promote K. vulgare growth and 2-KGA production. Unlike previous reviews where the main focus was the interaction between associated bacteria and K. vulgare, this Review presents the latest scientific research from the perspective of the metabolic pathways associated with 2-KGA production by K. vulgare and the mechanism underlying the interaction between K. vulgare and the associated bacteria. In addition, the dehydrogenases that are responsible for 2-KGA production, the 2-KGA synthesis pathway, strategies for simplifying 2-KGA production via a one-step fermentation route, and, finally, future prospects and research goals in vitamin C production are also presented.

Pan-Cancer Analysis of P3H1 and Experimental Validation in Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma.

Abstract
Prolyl 3-hydroxylase 1 (P3H1) has been implicated in cancer development, but no pan-cancer analysis has been conducted on P3H1. In this study, for the first time, aspects associated with P3H1, such as the mRNA expression, any mutation, promoter methylation, and prognostic significance, the relationship between P3H1 and clinicopathological parameters, drug sensitivity, and immune cell infiltration were investigated by searching several databases including The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), cBioPortal, and The Tumor Immune Evaluation Resource (TIMER2.0) using bioinformatics tools. The findings indicate significant differential expression of P3H1 in most tumors when compared to normal tissues, with a strong association with clinical prognosis. A pan-cancer Cox regression analysis revealed that high P3H1 expression is significantly associated with low overall survival in patients with brain lower grade glioma, kidney clear cell carcinoma, adrenocortical cancer, liver hepatocellular carcinoma, mesothelioma, sarcoma, uveal melanoma, bladder urothelial carcinoma, kidney papillary cell carcinoma, kidney chromophobe, thymoma, and thyroid carcinoma. A negative correlation was observed between P3H1 DNA methylation and its expression. P3H1 is significantly associated with infiltrating cells, immune-related genes, tumor mutation burden, microsatellite instability, and mismatch repair. Finally, A significant correlation was found between P3H1 expression and sensitivity to nine drugs. Thus, enhanced P3H1 expression is associated with poor prognosis in a variety of tumors, which may be due to its role in tumor immune regulation and tumor microenvironment. This pan-cancer analysis provides insight into the function of P3H1 in tumorigenesis of different cancers and provides a theoretical basis for further in-depth studies to follow.
